I am not sure what you mean by "different handling". I have driven a 750 Honda, Lambretta 200 scooter and now my latest passion is a Stella, a 150 CC Vespa made by LML of India. I also ride a bicycle. They are all 2 wheel vehicles that require some degree of balance, and when gas is involved an understanding and sensitivity to the power that your throttle can summon. So, a 'proper bike" is one that gets you from point A to point B quickly and with a fair degree of comfort. I don't think that it would take me longer than 20 minutes to familiarize myself with one 2 wheel vehcile over another. And remember, your "proper bike" is always a few 100 CCs less or more than the next guy's.

I am currently living in Spain where all teenage boys and girls travel by scooter. There is no embarrassment here about scooters, which I find really cool. However I find them a bit strange to ride after a 'proper' bike as thery require different handling, that I can't really be bothered to master!
