Winter Bikers
Oct 8th, 2008 by Leo

The weather’s getting nippy out. Two weeks ago it was 100 degrees (where I was…in LA), now I’m almost in my winter gear. Whether or not you ride in the winter, there are weeks when you might not have the time or energy to brave the cold on two wheels. So here’s the question for those CityBikers who enjoy four seasons: What do you do with your bike in the winter?
[a] Park it on the street and ride it like you stole it!
[b] Roll it in to my living room
[c] Two words: Private garage (editorial: I envy you)
[d] Roll it into Storage
[e] Other: __________________________
A follow up question would be: Do you take it out at all during the winter or wait for spring?

I haven’t braved winter riding before, but I am going to give it a shot this year. Northern California is pretty mild so at worst I’ll get wet. Still, kind of a scary prospect. Otherwise, one of my riding buddies has some garage space for me, so I guess my answers are A & C.
[c] – one of the things that makes me glad to be in MA after a few years in Brooklyn.
It’ll be my first winter in the northeast with a bike, though. I’m hoping to ride whenever there isn’t fresh snow on the ground.
I did it last year and I can honestly say it sucked. Really.
When the temps get hardcore and you lack a windshield, even heated grips and winter gloves do nothing.
This year it will definitely be storage at a local dealer.
