What would MJ Ride?
Nov 5th, 2008 by Leo
I would have never guessed we’d have a president with a first name like Barack or last name like Obama, but I’m proud to live in a country that produced and elected such a uniquely gifted person like he is. And I agree with Tavis Smiley (who supports Obama, but had some rather public differences with him) when he says we should pray for the president elect that he doesn’t sell out or lose his soul in the face of the enormous pressure he’s going to be under.
This is all very interesting, but unfortunately none of this has anything to do with motorcycles… But I did run across this video of another iconic figure and his questionable taste in rides… If you haven’t clicked on the video yet take a guess: What would you ride if you were (the) Michael Jordan and could ride anything you wanted? Maybe something tall like a GS, or something classic like an Electroglide… Just like the name of our President elect, I would never have thought he’d ride this to Daytona. Or even go to Daytona. What is the world coming to?

Not really all that surprising he’d be at Daytona, MJ’s been a huge fan of motorsports for a while now; for a few years he’s owned the AMA team which just won the Superstock category. A few of the shoes that Jordan Brand’s released over the past few years have even been inspired by his “New Love” for motorsports. The Air Jordan 20’s have a gear-shift patch, the 21’s in red suede mimic a classic racing boot, and the newest J’s (XX3’s) are gonna be out in a “Motorsport” colorway come November 28th (though @ $185). MJ knows a good thing when he sees one. That Ducati looks amazing!
Oh and just found your blog, and it makes for a great read, cheers!
Questionable? Its a pimped out Daytona. I can’t imagine him on anything else.
I’ll take MJ on his Daytona than Shaq on that custom-made Jesse James chopper.
I don’t really know much about MJ but I see him on one of the chopper type bikes. I would think his height would make the sport bikes a little uncomfortable.
As an aside is a Duc 999 also known as a Daytona? I was expecting a Triumph.
Haha sorry for the confusion. MJ says something about wanting the bike ready for “Daytona” I’m assuming he means the Daytona Beach Bike week. It’s odd because I thought it was more of a cruiser-biker kind of thing – and Michael Jordan is the last person I’d expect to see there.
About height, the 999 is one of the shorter ones, a couple of inches lower than the 1098. Good for people like me, but not so good for super tall folk.. He looks all scrunched up when he’s riding one of his race bikes.
I’m happy to see he fits reasonably on the bike. I’m 6′ 11″, and have a preference for sports-style bikes, so I feel there’s hope for me.
On the other hand, it’s a custom built bike, the designer said he kept only the frame and engine, and even those were modified. If you’re willing to spend somewhere in the 6-figure range on a bike, I sure as hell hope the ride’s comfy.
