Biker Cops Overseas
Mar 27th, 2009 by Leo
Imagine a Police Officer actually talking to you like a human being (doesn’t always happen around here for bikers); and not only that, but also riding a cool bike, while sticking up for the safety of a bikers. I don’t know what planet this video is from but I hope they send some this way.
I know there are a few cops in the NYPD who ride… If the local PD really wanted to get a handle on dangerous motorcyclists and motorcycle theft, they could send a few officers to biker hangouts (like Astoria Park on Fridays) just to talk to people. You can call it community relations. It’s easy and costs little. They could let bikers know that the police are “civil” servants, and maybe pick up some street news on thefts, thugs, and the local SQUIDS. At the same time they could pass on info about things like equipment violations: overly loud pipes (they could bring a sound meter and show people if it’s too loud, just as a friendly warning – I guarantee you they will go home and fix their pipes), illegal license plate holders, sidewalk parking, or whatever the NYPD wants to crack down on… Any upper level Law Enforcement reading this? Feel free to drop me a note (leoATcitybikerblog.com)

It would be nice if the motorcycling community had more interaction with the police department. I think just being face to face on an even level would make both sides think a little more.
I wonder if this video is another from the county of Devon in the UK. They did a couple funny motorcycle PSAs.
I think it would be amazing if there were more motorcycle Police in the NYPD — and if they actually wore proper gear. (And, if I saw a cop on a ‘busa, I’d *definitely* take notice! Cool!)
