Get down! Huh!

Just a quick note about getting down in a low riding position… Getting low on the tank is not a position you use all the time on the street – but still there are times when it makes sense. Such as when you’re hitting the highway for a quick sprint in the cold; getting down gets you out of the wind and behind the windshield. As simple as it sounds, surprisingly, lots of us do it wrong.
Most people just sit in their regular position and lean over further to get down on the tank. And that’s fine, but you probably won’t be able to stay that way for long… because the pegs will be in the wrong place for your body’s center of gravity, and your arms are too close. What you need to do is scoot back in your seat further away from the tank. If you sit back, your head will be down. If you’re head’s not down enough, you’re not sitting far back enough.
This applies to scooters or sportbikes, or even cruisers going on a spirited ride through twisties… Get back on the seat (as you roll on the throttle) and get down. Not only does it make getting down more comfortable, it actually maintains the proper weight distribution over the center of the bike (your torso leaning forward is compensated for by your butt moving back). Cheers!
