A practical city motorcycle…

We’re hunkering down for another snow storm here in NY, and one of the practical things about 250’s is…not only are they cheaper to buy and maintain, not only are they great on gas mileage, but they’re also great in the snow. You can learn things riding a smaller motorcycle that you will never learn on a larger (also heavier and more expensive to repair) machine. So here’s a little Motorcycle.com video on some 250 options…

I got a 250R this year and it’s been great so far.
Cool.
When someone goes from riding 250’s to larger displacement bikes, people often say “hey you think you can handle it? Be careful!” And yes, any sporty bike will have more power than a 250R – but it’s really the other way around. When you ride a smaller cc’ bike, you ride closer to the limit…a feeling that any 600cc sportbike riders will rarely experience on the street.
Check out this video of MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo riding around a parking lot on a small displacement thumper: http://www.twitvid.com/87E2B
I’d love to see less Fury, DN-01 and Shamu (VFR 1200F) in the U.S. from Honda and more bikes like the VTR 250:

George is such a tool. He makes fun of his buddy while trying to make himself look cool. Is placing #2 in MotoGP last year not enough for his ego? Sheesh.
Yeah! And the 250R is Kawasaki’s best selling bike in the US – one would think Honda and Yamaha would want to sell their 250s here too…
I think that the other co’s are focused on marketing their more expensive offerings in the US. There’s a perception that Americans spend a lot more money than anyone else. So they’d rather market their 7k bikes than the 3k ones.
However, with Kawi’s whopping 40% price increase for the 250 in the last 3 years, the other manufacturers might take note and start exporting more 250s into the US.
I hope so – competition is extremely good.

Looks like Jorge’s monkeying around came down to a bad break. Perhaps he’ll be nicer to his non-motogp riding buddies now.
