A tempting scooter?

If you’re a scooter rider, this isn’t for you – you already live with a level of convenience that most motorcyclists don’t know. Most motorcyclists in the US don’t do scooters. Yes Valentino Rossi might be could out doing wheelies on a 50cc, but it’s just not macho enough for the typical squid. Which is why there are so many weekend riders. For some folks, a motorcycle just isn’t practical enough to commute with, or go out to dinner with, or go shopping in the city. I love my motorcycle, but on a date night in Manhattan, it usually has to stay home. But what if you could have the freedom of your motorcycle AND a massive underseat trunk that could store a couple of helmets, jackets, and some flowers for your date?
If riding a sportbike in the city is like dating a supermodel, and even a Harley is like being married to a demanding self-centered celebrity, a scooter is like the considerate but less-attractive spouse…the perfect husband or wife whom you grow to love for their cuteness and inner qualities…
So here’s the question for motorcyclists – could you ever be tempted by a scooter? Unfortunately the Gilera isn’t available in the U.S. – but if it interests you, perhaps you’d like the Yamaha T-Max…
Fortunately, although I believe in true love with one person – this does not apply to bikes… Supermodel bikes are way easier to live with when you have a scooter to go to the store with…

I rode my Vulcan 500 into the city on Friday and a scooter zipped past me and split lanes on the Brooklyn Bridge pretty much the whole way in. I envied him as his silver helmet got smaller and disappeared while I limed in cage traffic. I also could have used scooter sized storage space when I did my last minute mother’s day shopping last night. I would never trade her for a scooter, but if I had the money, we’d be playing Big Love for sure.
