Figure 8 GP
Jun 8th, 2011 by CityBiker1
It’s funny, most people are fine with saying they’re “no good at math” or “no good at…” many things, but everyone insists they are great natural talents at things like driving and riding… Well, here’s a chance to see what you REALLY got. Here’s a challenge you can do ANYWHERE with any kind of bike or scooter, and you don’t need a lot of equipment or expensive track time or leathers (although elbow pads and knee pads are a good idea if you’re going to try this at a fast pace)…
All you need are two cones and and a stop watch of some sort…and a video camera if you want bragging rights. Set the cones 12 meters apart (that’s 39 feet and 4.5 inches). Mark off a starting/end point 3 meters from the first cone (9 feet 9 inches) and do 5 figure-8’s… If you can do it in anything close to 26 seconds – then you are world class my friend! A nice 26 second run after the jump!–
While you won’t learn how to drag your knee on the pavement (if you’re doing this right), you will learn to turn your bike quickly and accurately at a brisk pace -which is really 90% of the skills you need to ride on the road… the other 10% being the ability to see and choose a good line. But if you can do a GP8 in under 30 seconds, you probably won’t have too much trouble getting your bike to take any line you please…
