Best used sportbike in 2022…

I have a question for you guys (and gals), but it requires a bit of explaining… The great thing (I think) about the Toyota AE86 (Corolla) was: it was a fun sporty car that you could drive it every day (reliable and practical 2+2)…AND thirty years later it would still be a fun car. No, it’s not the sexiest machine on 4 wheels, but it’s also not embarrassing to look at after 30 years (a little boring is okay), and I really could have driven it every day for the past 30 years. Here’s why I ask: I love my 2003 CBR 600RR…

It’s not the sexiest bike out there… and it wasn’t in ’03, although it was cutting edge for a 600 (I bought it used 2 years later though). I recall I was considering getting the R6 or the Ninja 636 or GSXR or Triumph Daytona (which looked kinda’ funny back then too), but these all look more dated, and/or weren’t as pleasant as street bikes (the 636 might have been good, but I don’t like the way they look now that a few years have passed)…
Even on the Italian front, the Ducati 999 is embarrassing to look at today, and not fun to commute on. But the 600RR has been reliable and kept up in terms of looks and performance… Okay, that’s all my opinion, but…my question is: what will be the “I’m glad to still have own this bike” ten years from now?
If I were to buy a new-ish bike this year and kept it for ten years, what bike should it be (given my taste for the sportier set)? Give me your suggestion and your reason why in the comments section. Thanks!

The 250 Ninja.
I know, boring answer. But it’s true. If you have an ’88 ninja, you’re glad you have one. Barring some kind of radical change, people who keep one of the new little ninjas will feel the same way.
I am biased but I would vote for the Daytona. Also the 2008-2009 model year gsxrs look pretty solid. In the non sporty world, I think the Bonnevilles up to 2008 will look good going forward (pre mag wheel and insect banana seat).
I was thinking of this post this morning on my way to work when I saw a Suzuki RF 900. That bike aged pretty well:

I love the Ninja 250 – and I think I’ll look to buy an old one again at some point – but I think there would be a missing part in my riding life if I didn’t also have a slightly faster bike…
And I love Bonnevilles and Scramblers too, and they have more power than a EX250, but they also have a lot more weight… so they’re low-ish on power AND slow on turns.
A 3 cylinder Triumph might be the ticket – I don’t know enough about them… I like the newer GSXRs too – and they certainly have the street hoodlum cred.
I own 2003 SV650 naked and glad I still have it. It still looks good and gives me everything I need on my daily commute. Occasionally, I think of replacing it, but can’t justify it yet. If I would buy another bike now, I would pick one of the following middleweight adventurers, Suzuki Vstrom 650, Triumph Tiger 800 or BMW F650GS. These bike are comfortable for daily commute, comfortable enough for weekend getaway, economical, cheaper to insure. But most of all, ten years from now they’ll be still comfortable and practical.
